In a tragic incident in southwest Delhi, a 17-year-old boy rented an Audi for Rs 16,000 to celebrate a friend's birthday and crashed it into three vehicles, resulting in the death of a pedestrian. The accident occurred around 2:30 AM on October 4 near a CNG pump at the Kishangarh red light, according to police sources.
The victim, identified as Umashankar, 45, was severely injured in the collision and was taken to JPN Apex Trauma Centre, where he was pronounced dead. The juvenile driver, who was allegedly driving recklessly, has since been apprehended by the police and presented before the Juvenile Justice Board via video conferencing.
Authorities have seized all vehicles involved in the incident, including the rented Audi, and have filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Kishangarh police station. The FIR includes charges under Sections 281 for rash driving and 106(1) for causing death by negligence, as well as Section 3/181 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
The car rental company that provided the vehicle to the minor is also under scrutiny. Investigators are examining the booking details, the age verification process, and the driving license and other documents submitted during the rental process. Police have stated that if any violations are discovered, appropriate legal action will be taken against the responsible parties.
As the investigation continues, this incident raises significant concerns about the regulations surrounding vehicle rentals to minors and the responsibilities of rental companies in verifying the age and qualifications of their customers. Authorities are expected to implement stricter measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
