In the early hours of Friday, a substantial fire broke out at a four-storey commercial building located in Gaffar Market, Delhi, just days before the Diwali festival. The incident occurred on the occasion of Dhanteras, leading to a swift emergency response from local authorities.

Emergency services received a call regarding the fire at approximately 1:28 AM, prompting police personnel, including the Station House Officer (SHO), to rush to the scene. They discovered the fire at Shop No. 13/21 in Puri Plaza, a commercial establishment specializing in mobile accessories. Preliminary investigations indicate that the blaze may have originated from a ground-floor shop where mobile batteries were stored, quickly spreading throughout the building.

To combat the fire, around 20 to 25 fire engines were dispatched to the site, alongside three CAT ambulances and two PCR vehicles. Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries or fatalities, although the fire has caused significant property damage.

Authorities suspect that the fire may have been triggered by overheating or overcharging of batteries, but the exact cause remains under investigation. The Fire Department and the Electrical Inspector are expected to provide detailed reports, while a team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) will examine the premises to determine if any other flammable materials contributed to the fire's spread.

Currently, the situation is under control, and police are ensuring law and order in the vicinity. Further actions will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing investigation, including obtaining a structural safety assessment from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to ensure public safety in the area.
