Criminal Defamation Case Against Dhirendra Shastri in Agra
Dhirendra Shastri faces legal action for alleged derogatory comments about Lord Krishna during a religious discourse.
A complaint was filed against Dhirendra Shastri in Agra for remarks on Lord Krishna.
The comments were made during a Ram Katha event in Madhya Pradesh.
The court has scheduled the next hearing for December 14.
A criminal defamation case has been initiated against religious leader Dhirendra Shastri in an Agra court due to his remarks regarding Lord Krishna. The complaint was lodged by Advocate Ajay Pratap Singh, who claims that Shastri's statements during a religious discourse were derogatory and offended the sentiments of Krishna's descendants.
The controversy erupted during a Ram Katha event in Karera, Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, where Shastri allegedly compared the physical postures of Lord Ram and Lord Krishna. According to the complaint, Shastri stated, "Those who follow Krishna might feel bad, but Krishna is very crooked. Even when he stands, he is bent at three places." This statement has been interpreted as disrespectful towards the revered figure in Hinduism.
Singh, who identifies as a descendant of Lord Krishna, argues that such remarks not only hurt the religious sentiments of Krishna's followers but also tarnish their social standing. He referenced historical communities, including the Jadoons, Jadejas, and Bhatis, to substantiate his claims of lineage and the ongoing significance of Krishna's descendants in India.
The case was presented for preliminary hearing before Civil Judge Kanchan Kumar, who has registered the complaint and set December 14 for the next court session. This legal action follows recent comments from Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, who advised event organizers to avoid controversial figures like Shastri in religious programs.
In response to Yadav's remarks, BJP state president Pankaj Chaudhary emphasized the importance of personal integrity in preaching, quoting from the Ramcharitmanas. The developments surrounding this case highlight the ongoing tensions in religious discourse and the sensitivities surrounding revered figures in Hindu mythology.
