An FIR was lodged against AAP leaders for alleged disruption at Gurudwara Bangla Sahib.
The DSGMC claims AAP workers posed as protesters, causing unrest in the Sikh community.
Police are investigating video footage related to the incident.
Delhi Police have initiated an FIR against Arvind Kejriwal, the chief of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), along with several party leaders and MLAs. This action follows a formal complaint lodged by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), which accused AAP members of causing chaos at the Gurudwara Bangla Sahib during a protest. The complaint specifically highlights the circulation of misleading videos and social media posts that emerged after the incident.
The president of the DSGMC, Harmeet Singh Kalka, expressed significant discontent within the Sikh community regarding the actions of AAP workers. He stated that these individuals allegedly entered the vicinity of the gurdwara under the guise of protesters, unfurling banners and shouting slogans, which he claimed undermined the sanctity of the religious site. Kalka emphasized that the committee had taken steps against those involved and had formally reported the matter to the police.
In his statements, Kalka condemned the presence of police officers in uniform at the gurdwara, asserting that the DSGMC had instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police to ensure that officers refrain from entering the premises in uniform. He noted that while the area is a public thoroughfare, the police should exercise caution and restraint, particularly in light of the current tensions. Kalka further alleged that all identified protesters were affiliated with AAP, raising concerns about the party's involvement in the situation.
The implications of this incident extend beyond the immediate conflict, as it has sparked considerable unrest within the Sikh community, which feels that their religious space was disrespected. The DSGMC's actions reflect a broader concern about political activities encroaching on sacred sites, and the community's response could influence future interactions between political parties and religious organizations.
Looking ahead, the investigation into the incident continues as police analyze the video evidence submitted by the DSGMC. The outcome of this inquiry may have significant ramifications for AAP and its leadership, particularly as they navigate their relationship with the Sikh community and address the allegations made against them.
