In a shocking incident at a government school in Anantapur district, Andhra Pradesh, a chainsaw attack left two schoolgirls injured, prompting the victim's family to demand immediate police action against the suspect. The attack occurred on Saturday morning at the Zilla Parishad High School in Raptadu village, where the assailant, identified as Hemanth alias Dummu, allegedly entered a classroom and attacked the girls while lessons were ongoing.
The victim's grandfather, Mudaga Katamaiya, expressed disbelief over the attack, stating that the family had no prior knowledge of the suspect's one-sided affection for the girl. He emphasized that had they been aware, they would have taken precautions. The family is now grappling with the aftermath of the attack, which they believe was motivated by the rejection of the suspect's advances. Katamaiya revealed that the girl is currently out of danger but will require further surgeries.
Authorities have confirmed that the suspect, a 21-year-old from Nagalur in Sri Sathya Sai district, is still on the run. Police have mobilized multiple teams to locate him, as he is believed to have stalked the victim prior to the attack. The incident has raised serious concerns about safety in schools, especially given that the attack occurred in front of a teacher and other students.
In response to the traumatic event, Andhra Pradesh's Education Minister Nara Lokesh announced that mental health counselors are being deployed to support the affected students. A team of 20 counselors will visit the homes of all students in Class X-A, as well as girls in Classes 8, 9, and 10, to provide emotional support and help them cope with the incident's psychological impact.
Looking ahead, the police are under pressure to apprehend the suspect swiftly, as community fears grow regarding safety in schools. The family continues to advocate for justice, urging law enforcement to take decisive action against the individual responsible for this heinous act. The situation remains tense as the investigation unfolds, and the community seeks reassurance of safety for their children.
