The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) celebrated its 74th Foundation Day in New Delhi on November 1, 2026, with Union Labour and Employment Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya inaugurating the event. This occasion is significant as it highlights EPFO's ongoing efforts to enhance the accessibility and convenience of provident fund services for its subscribers.
Among the notable initiatives announced during the celebration is the automatic settlement of eligible inoperative EPF accounts that hold balances of up to ₹1,000. This new feature is designed to streamline the process for clearing small, inactive account balances, thereby eliminating the need for eligible members to undergo a lengthy settlement process. Additionally, EPFO is set to launch services through WhatsApp, providing subscribers with a modern channel to access their accounts and avail themselves of various services.
While the press release from the Ministry did not elaborate on the specific eligibility criteria or the full range of services available via WhatsApp, the introduction of these features is part of EPFO's broader strategy to improve service delivery and foster better engagement with its members. The automatic settlement initiative is particularly aimed at ensuring that small account balances are resolved efficiently, making it easier for subscribers to manage their retirement savings.
The Foundation Day festivities also included the presentation of the Bhavishya Nidhi Awards 2026, where Minister Mandaviya acknowledged the exceptional contributions made by EPFO's Regional and Zonal Offices, as well as its officers and employees. Furthermore, the Minister reviewed exhibition stalls and released publications that showcased EPFO's efforts in knowledge creation, institutional learning, and legal awareness.
As EPFO marks this milestone in its history, the newly proposed initiatives reflect its commitment to enhancing the delivery of provident fund services. For eligible subscribers, these changes promise a more straightforward and efficient way to manage their retirement savings, ultimately contributing to a more transparent and accountable system.
