DRDO Conducts Successful Flight Test of Pralay Missile
India's Defence Research and Development Organisation has successfully tested the Pralay missile, enhancing the nation's missile capabilities.
Successful flight test conducted off Odisha coast
Pralay missile boasts a range of 150 to 500 km
Advanced guidance systems improve strike precision
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) of India successfully conducted a flight test of the Pralay missile on Thursday at 11:10 AM off the coast of Odisha. This test is part of the user evaluation trials aimed at bolstering India's indigenous missile capabilities, marking a significant advancement in the nation's defense technology.
The Pralay missile is a solid-propellant, quasi-ballistic surface-to-surface missile, capable of striking targets at ranges between 150 to 500 kilometers, depending on the weight of its payload. During the test, the missile demonstrated its ability to carry a 1,000-kilogram payload over a distance of 350 kilometers, while a lighter payload of 500 kilograms allows it to reach approximately 500 kilometers. This versatility enhances its operational effectiveness in various combat scenarios.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh confirmed the successful trial via a post on X, stating that the missile met all the objectives set for the test. The performance of the Pralay missile was validated through data collected from various range instruments deployed during the flight, ensuring that it adheres to the stringent standards expected of modern defense systems.
The missile is equipped with advanced guidance and navigation systems that enhance its precision, allowing it to engage multiple types of targets effectively. Its mobile launch capability enables deployment from various locations, providing strategic flexibility. The quasi-ballistic trajectory of the Pralay missile allows it to maneuver during flight, making it more difficult for enemy air defense systems to intercept.
Looking ahead, the successful testing of the Pralay missile is expected to have significant implications for India's defense strategy, further solidifying its position in regional security dynamics. The DRDO continues to focus on developing advanced missile systems, with future tests and enhancements anticipated to strengthen India's defense capabilities further.
