Nagpur Police Enforces Crackers Ban Ahead of Diwali 2023
Strict regulations on firecracker use in Nagpur aim to enhance public safety and reduce environmental impact during Diwali celebrations.
Firecrackers banned on public roads from Nov 6 to Nov 14.
Only green crackers permitted for sale due to air pollution concerns.
Prohibitions include areas near petrol pumps, schools, and hospitals.
In anticipation of the Diwali festival, Nagpur's Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil has announced stringent restrictions on the use of firecrackers. The prohibitory order, effective from November 6 until midnight on November 14, is aimed at ensuring public safety and addressing environmental concerns related to air quality.
This decision follows a Bombay High Court ruling from September 23, 2026, which mandates a ban on bursting firecrackers on public roads. The police commissioner has emphasized the importance of adhering to these guidelines, particularly as Nagpur is categorized under moderate air pollution levels. All firecracker vendors, including manufacturers and retailers, are required to sell only environmentally friendly green crackers during this period.
The order specifies that firecrackers cannot be ignited within 200 feet of sensitive locations such as petrol stations, LPG cylinder storage areas, kerosene depots, firecracker shops, and chemical storage facilities. Additionally, the use of firecrackers is prohibited in silence zones, which encompass areas surrounding educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and judicial courts. Furthermore, the release of flying lanterns has been entirely banned across the city.
These measures are part of a broader effort to mitigate the risks associated with fire hazards and to protect the health of residents during the festive season. The police department is committed to enforcing these regulations strictly to ensure compliance and safeguard the community.
Looking ahead, the police will monitor compliance with these restrictions closely as the festival approaches. Residents and businesses are urged to cooperate with the guidelines to promote a safe and environmentally responsible Diwali celebration.
