On Thursday, Mumbai's Colaba observatory reported a maximum temperature of 36.9°C, establishing it as the hottest location in Maharashtra for the day. This temperature is significantly higher than the normal levels, exceeding them by 2.6°C. In contrast, nearby Alibag recorded a maximum of 35°C, while Dahanu saw a lower temperature of 34.1°C.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) also noted that the Santacruz observatory registered a maximum temperature of 35.4°C, which is 0.7°C above the average for this time of year. The minimum temperatures recorded were 26°C at Colaba and 22.7°C at Santacruz, both of which were also above normal levels by 1.7°C and 0.3°C, respectively.

Humidity levels varied between the two observatories, with Colaba experiencing a relative humidity of 82% and Santacruz at 66%. An official from the IMD attributed the rise in temperatures to the ongoing dry weather and a lack of significant cloud cover, which are expected to continue in the following days.

The implications of these rising temperatures are significant for the residents of Mumbai and surrounding areas. The persistent heat can affect daily activities, health, and overall comfort levels, especially for vulnerable populations. Additionally, the dry conditions may impact local agriculture and water resources.

Looking ahead, the IMD forecasts that the dry weather will persist, with no immediate relief from the heat in sight. Residents are advised to take precautions against the heat, especially during peak daytime hours, as temperatures are likely to remain elevated in the coming days.
