CJP leaders led a protest at Jantar Mantar after it was denotified as a protest site.
Delhi Police detained the protesters, including Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das.
New designated protest sites have been established in Delhi: Ramlila Ground, Burari Ground, and CBD Ground.
In a bold move following the government's recent decision to denotify Jantar Mantar as an official protest site, leaders from the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), including Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das, staged a protest early Tuesday morning. The demonstration involved climbing over a police barricade and an iron gate to access the area, where they aimed to voice their dissent against the government's actions.
The protest was organized by CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, who shared a video of the event on social media. The footage depicted Ranka, Das, and other volunteers jumping the gate while waving flags and chanting slogans, such as 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' and 'Inquilab Zindabaad.' However, their demonstration was short-lived as they were quickly apprehended by the Delhi Police, who had fortified the area since October 10 to prevent any protests.
Dipke expressed his defiance against the government's decision, stating, "You cannot denotify the resistance." He criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration, claiming that the removal of Jantar Mantar as a designated protest site would not quell dissent but rather inspire new protest sites across the country. He emphasized that the spirit of protest would persist despite the government's attempts to suppress it.
The denotification of Jantar Mantar has significant implications for the protest landscape in Delhi. The area, known for its historical importance as a site for public demonstrations, will no longer serve this purpose. In response to the changes, the Union Home Ministry has designated three new locations for protests: Ramlila Ground, Burari Ground, and CBD Ground in East Delhi. This shift comes amid ongoing protests by the opposition bloc INDIA and the CJP against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar regarding the special intensive revision controversy.
Looking ahead, the CJP and other opposition groups are likely to continue their efforts to mobilize public sentiment against the government's actions. With the establishment of new protest sites, the potential for further demonstrations remains high. The situation is evolving, and the CJP's next steps will be closely monitored as they seek to challenge the government's authority and advocate for their cause.
