Flight OS82 was diverted to Sofia after a bomb threat signal was received.
All 57 individuals on board, including passengers and crew, were safely evacuated.
The incident follows a recent security scare involving another flight to Tel Aviv.
An Austrian Airlines flight, designated OS82, traveling from Tel Aviv to Vienna, was forced to make an emergency landing in Sofia, Bulgaria, due to a bomb threat signal received during the flight. The Airbus A320 was diverted to Sofia after the threat was reported near the Romanian border, as confirmed by Bulgaria’s Ministry of Transport and Communications. The aircraft landed at approximately 9:25 PM UTC, according to flight-tracking data.
Initial reports indicated that the flight had six crew members and 51 passengers on board. Following the landing, all individuals were safely evacuated from the aircraft. The Ministry of Transport noted that the crew made the decision to land in Sofia after detecting the bomb threat signal while flying near Romania.
To ensure safety, a Bulgarian Air Force fighter jet was dispatched to escort the aircraft until it safely reached Sofia airport. A crisis management headquarters was established to coordinate the response, and relevant authorities began conducting a thorough inspection of the plane.
Reports from Israeli media, including Ynet, indicated that the emergency was triggered by an anonymous tip claiming a bomb was present on board. Additionally, The Times of Israel reported that security concerns escalated when a suspicious object was allegedly seen on the aircraft’s deck, prompting the plane to transmit an emergency signal.
The flight was carrying a delegation of young individuals scheduled to address the United Nations. As of now, further details regarding the alleged bomb threat and the results of the security inspection remain undisclosed. This incident follows a recent security scare involving a Flydubai flight to Tel Aviv, where a potential crash attempt was reportedly thwarted by the captain and several Israeli passengers.
