Police have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, with an anti-corruption team involved.
In a shocking development, customers of the Punjab National Bank (PNB) branch in Greater Noida have alleged that over ₹12 crore was fraudulently transferred from their accounts. This revelation has led to the suspension of all branch employees, including the branch manager, as investigations unfold. The complaints have surged to 25, prompting local police to take action and register a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The alleged fraud came to light when several account holders attempted to withdraw their funds, only to discover that significant amounts had been transferred without their consent. Ram Vinod Kumar, the lead bank manager for Gautam Budh Nagar, confirmed that the disputed funds have been put on hold by PNB's head office in Delhi and are expected to be returned to the customers.
Among the complainants is Amarpal, who reported that he had opened multiple fixed deposits totaling ₹80 lakh in his mother’s name, alongside a savings deposit of ₹12 lakh. He stated that upon visiting the bank to access his funds, he was informed that there was no money available. Additionally, another account holder, Sandeep, revealed that a substantial land compensation amount deposited in his family’s account had been drastically reduced without explanation.
The implications of this incident extend beyond the immediate financial concerns of the affected customers. The local police have initiated a criminal investigation, and an anti-corruption team has joined the probe to ensure accountability. This situation raises serious questions about the security of banking transactions and the trust customers place in financial institutions.
Looking ahead, the investigation is expected to continue as authorities work to uncover the full extent of the fraud. Customers are urged to monitor their accounts closely and report any suspicious activity. The outcome of this case could lead to significant changes in banking regulations and practices in the region, emphasizing the need for enhanced security measures to protect consumers.
