Union Home Minister Amit Shah delivered a pointed critique of Rahul Gandhi on Thursday, addressing allegations of 'vote chori' during an event in New Delhi. Shah, who was celebrating his birthday, unveiled projects valued at Rs 8,941 crore aimed at cleaning the Yamuna River. He accused the Congress leader of using claims of vote theft to rationalize the party's electoral defeats, asserting that the BJP's consistent victories have unsettled the opposition.
Shah argued that the BJP's electoral success predates Narendra Modi's tenure as Prime Minister, highlighting Congress's long-standing absence from power in various states. He challenged Gandhi's narrative, questioning whether the Congress's electoral troubles began only after Modi assumed office. Shah stated, "The BJP keeps winning elections, and the opposition is troubled by it. That is why they have come up with the excuse of ‘vote chori’ or vote theft."
In his remarks, Shah emphasized the BJP's connection to the electorate, asserting, "Amit Shah was born here, lives here and will die here. I do not have to travel abroad every six months. I live among the people of this country." He also criticized Gandhi's inconsistent stance on judicial rulings, suggesting that the Congress leader only accepts favorable decisions while questioning those against him.
Shah's address also targeted the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) regarding its governance in Delhi and Punjab. He accused previous administrations of allowing untreated sewage to pollute the Yamuna and pledged that the BJP government would rectify this by May 2029. He stated, "Congress and AAP governments allowed the discharge of sewer water into the Yamuna; we will clean it by May 2029."
Turning his focus to Punjab, where elections are approaching, Shah condemned the drug crisis under the AAP government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. He expressed confidence that the NDA would secure victory in the state, asserting, "Drug menace prevalent in Punjab; people of state want NDA government. AAP is going to be routed in Punjab elections; we will end drug trafficking in state."
