On Tuesday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis extended an invitation to UK businesses and institutions to invest in the state during the Maharashtra-UK Partnership Launch held in Mumbai. He emphasized the state's robust industrial ecosystem, skilled workforce, and expanding opportunities in sectors such as manufacturing, technology, education, and clean energy.
Fadnavis highlighted that Maharashtra is committed to fostering an investment-friendly climate by effectively integrating skills, capital, and technology. He assured that the state government would facilitate investment projects through the 'Invest Maharashtra' platform, ensuring swift coordination among relevant departments to expedite processes.
During the event, the Chief Minister underscored the significance of the visit by UK officials, describing it as a chance to convert shared ambitions into concrete business partnerships. Following discussions with the high-level UK delegation, several memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were exchanged, aimed at strengthening collaboration across various sectors.
Fadnavis pointed out Maharashtra's economic strengths, identifying Mumbai as a global hub for finance and trade, and Pune as a center for engineering and IT. He noted that the state's skilled workforce and established industrial clusters make it an attractive destination for global investors. Additionally, he mentioned the National Education Policy's role in encouraging foreign universities to set up campuses in Maharashtra, with institutions like the University of Bristol and the University of York already establishing a presence.
Looking ahead, Fadnavis expressed optimism that the partnership would not only lead to formal agreements but also generate tangible industrial activity and job creation. UK Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Trade, Jonathan Reynolds, echoed this sentiment, describing Maharashtra as a prime location for British companies aiming to enter the Indian market. He emphasized the delegation's focus on achieving concrete outcomes to enhance economic collaboration between the two regions.
