On November 3, the Maharashtra Excise Department announced the successful seizure of illicit liquor and related materials worth ₹19.77 lakh during two operations in Latur district. The raids revealed a significant stock of Goa-manufactured liquor that was allegedly destined for sale within Maharashtra.
The first raid took place on October 30 in Sadguru Nagar on Malwati Road, where officials confiscated 1,152 sealed plastic bottles of Goa-produced liquor, alongside 125 bottles of counterfeit liquor from various brands. Additionally, the authorities seized 5,650 fake caps, a vehicle believed to be used for transporting the illegal goods, and two mobile phones. Following this operation, a case was filed against the alleged owners of the liquor stock and the premises involved.
Subsequent to the initial raid, further information obtained during the interrogation of the suspects led to another raid on November 1 at a residence in Anand Nagar. Here, officials recovered an additional 276 sealed bottles of Goa-manufactured liquor. A case has also been registered against the owner of this property.
In light of these developments, the Excise Department has issued a public advisory, urging citizens to purchase liquor exclusively from licensed vendors. They have also encouraged the community to report any suspicious activities related to illegal liquor production, transportation, or sales through their dedicated helpline numbers.
Looking ahead, the Excise Department is expected to intensify its operations against illegal liquor trade in the region, aiming to curb the distribution of unlicensed alcohol and ensure compliance with the Maharashtra Prohibition Act. Authorities are committed to maintaining public safety and health by tackling illicit liquor activities head-on.
