A devastating accident at a construction site in Ganeshpeth, Nagpur, resulted in the deaths of two workers on Friday. The incident occurred when a tower crane, while being raised, collided with another stationary crane, leading to its collapse. Police reported that the crane operator and a labourer were killed, while three additional workers sustained injuries during the incident.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Rahul Madane, the accident took place as workers attempted to increase the height of the 100-foot crane. The collision caused the crane's arm to detach, resulting in a catastrophic failure. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the impact propelled the labourer approximately 100 feet into the air before he fell to the ground, while the crane operator fell from a height of 60 feet.

Emergency services responded swiftly, with personnel from the Ganeshpeth police and fire department arriving at the scene. One worker, identified as Manturam, was trapped in the upper section of the crane. Firefighters climbed the crane to rescue him, successfully bringing him down on a stretcher. He, along with the other injured workers, was transported to a private hospital, where their conditions were reported as stable pending further medical evaluations.

This tragic incident has raised significant concerns regarding safety protocols at the construction site and the methods employed for raising the crane's height. Tower cranes typically undergo a climbing process that necessitates specialized equipment and stringent safety measures. However, the reasons behind the crane's loss of stability remain unclear, prompting further investigation by the authorities.

The Ganeshpeth police are currently conducting a detailed examination of the accident's circumstances and have initiated a 'panchnama' process. As of now, no formal charges have been filed, but police sources indicate that the contractor may face an FIR for culpable homicide not amounting to murder as the investigation unfolds.
