Nagpur Municipal Corporation plans to expedite projects under a Rs6,200 crore budget.

Several projects faced delays due to the MCC, with significant budgets still pending approval.
Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is poised to accelerate its civic development initiatives following the conclusion of the model code of conduct (MCC) for the Maharashtra Legislative Council elections. Mayor Neeta Thakre announced on Friday that all projects outlined in the substantial Rs6,200 crore civic budget will be completed without further hindrance.
The chief electoral officer of Maharashtra confirmed on October 29 that the MCC had ceased to apply in all five constituencies, allowing the NMC to move forward with its plans. Mayor Thakre emphasized the administration's commitment to ensuring that projects earmarked for the current financial year are implemented promptly, addressing the previous delays caused by the MCC.
Thakre also indicated that the zonal budgets for Nehru Nagar, Mangalwari, Gandhibagh, and Satranjipura would soon be approved, facilitating the commencement of local development works. The MCC had previously stalled numerous projects across the city, with reports in September highlighting that only six out of ten zones had submitted their budgets for approval, jeopardizing nearly Rs200 crore worth of initiatives.
The budgets for Gandhibagh, Satranjipura, and Mangalwari had reached the Standing Committee's agenda, while Nehru Nagar's budget was still pending due to unresolved issues regarding liabilities from the previous financial year. The swift approval of these budgets is crucial for the timely execution of various civic projects that have been on hold.
Looking ahead, the NMC aims to clear the backlog of projects and ensure that all planned initiatives for the financial year are executed efficiently. The local administration is expected to prioritize the approval process in the coming weeks, with stakeholders eager to see progress in civic infrastructure and services across Nagpur.
