In a significant operation, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has dismantled an interstate drug trafficking operation in Nagpur, Maharashtra, by seizing 3.01 kg of amphetamine worth ₹2.4 crore. The arrests were made on Wednesday when DRI officials intercepted a bus traveling from Delhi to Bengaluru at the Bhagimari Toll Plaza on NH-47.

The operation was initiated following a tip-off that led DRI officers to inspect the luggage of several passengers. During the search, they discovered three bags that were unusually heavy. Upon further examination, the officers found packets containing a white crystalline substance concealed within white pouches, which were hidden among clothing items.

Field tests confirmed that the substance was amphetamine, with the total weight of the seized drugs amounting to 3 kg. The two passengers found in possession of the contraband were subsequently arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The DRI has indicated that an investigation is currently underway to uncover the broader network involved in this trafficking operation.

This seizure highlights the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in combating drug trafficking in India. The DRI's swift action not only prevents the distribution of a significant quantity of illegal drugs but also underscores the importance of inter-agency cooperation in tackling such crimes.

Looking ahead, authorities are expected to intensify their efforts in monitoring transportation routes and enhancing surveillance to prevent similar incidents. The DRI aims to gather more intelligence on the trafficking networks operating across state lines, ensuring that those involved are brought to justice.
