Local residents expressed frustration over the lack of action from the Nagpur Municipal Corporation regarding stray dogs.

In a distressing event on Monday, a seven-month-old boy named Devansh was attacked by a pack of stray dogs near the Mangalwari fish market in Nagpur. Eyewitnesses reported that the dogs dragged the child approximately 10 to 12 feet, resulting in multiple bite wounds around his neck and throat. He has since been admitted to Mayo Hospital for treatment.

The incident unfolded while Devansh's mother stepped away to use a public washroom, leaving him unattended outside. According to bystander Babu Khan, the boy was alone when the dogs launched their attack. A nearby resident, alerted by the commotion, rushed to help and managed to scare the dogs away, but not before the child sustained serious injuries.

Medical professionals at Mayo Hospital noted that the boy's injuries were severe enough to delay immediate surgical intervention. This incident has ignited outrage among local residents, who have voiced their concerns about the ongoing issue of stray dogs in the area. Many claim that their previous complaints to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) regarding the stray dog population have gone unanswered.

Following the attack, residents attempted to contact the NMC's health department and dog-catching squad, but reported receiving no assistance. Mangalwari zonal officer Atram acknowledged that a dog-catching vehicle was dispatched to the scene, but locals requested the team to return the next morning. He emphasized the need for trained personnel to handle the situation safely, as the dogs could become aggressive during capture.

Atram stated that the team would return early the next day with a vehicle and a crew of six, including sanitation workers, to address the stray dog problem. He noted that the presence of food waste from nearby eateries, including a chicken shop and a biryani outlet, might be attracting the stray dogs to the area. The local community is now left hoping for a swift resolution to prevent such incidents in the future.
