Nagpur is gearing up for a significant cultural event as the Ravan Dahan celebration at Kasturchand Park marks its 75th anniversary from October 16 to 20, 2026. Organized by the Sanatan Dharma Yuvak Sabha, the platinum jubilee festivities will include a variety of cultural programs, culminating in the traditional burning of large effigies of Ravan, Kumbhakarna, and Meghnad on October 20.
The annual Ravan Dahan is a cherished Dussehra tradition in Nagpur, and this year promises an expanded program. The festivities will kick off on October 16 with a Bhajan Jamming session, followed by a grand Ramleela performance from October 17 to 19. This year, the Ramleela will feature innovative audio-visual effects and a fire show, a first for the event, designed to vividly portray key episodes from the Ramayana.
The highlight of the celebrations will be the burning of three massive effigies: a 75-foot Ravan, a 65-foot Kumbhakarna, and a 55-foot Meghnad. The main Ravan Dahan ceremony is scheduled for October 20, with entry to this significant event managed through donation passes, as stated by the organizers.
Prominent figures including Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Dr. Mohan Bhagwat, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis have been invited to the celebrations. However, their attendance has not yet been confirmed. The event aims to uphold the ideals associated with Lord Ram while celebrating a long-standing cultural tradition in Nagpur.
With four days of cultural activities leading up to the grand effigy burning, the Kasturchand Park festivities are expected to attract numerous devotees and visitors from Nagpur and surrounding areas. Residents are encouraged to stay updated through official announcements regarding event timings, entry details, and traffic advisories to ensure a smooth experience during the celebrations.
