In Nagpur, authorities are investigating a series of threatening letters sent to eight bullion traders, allegedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Preliminary findings suggest that these letters may have been dispatched from the Khamla area, prompting police to collaborate with postal department officials to trace the sender and gather further details.

The investigation began after Nehal Tinkhede, the owner of Durga Jewellers, reported receiving an envelope on October 31. According to his account, a woman visited his shop, requested Rs 10 for postage, and handed him the envelope before leaving. Tinkhede discovered that seven other envelopes were similarly addressed to various jewelry businesses, each containing threats demanding Rs 10 lakh and warning of violence against the traders and their families if the payments were not made within three days.

Senior Inspector Sanjay Mendhe confirmed that an FIR has been filed at the Tehsil police station against unknown individuals for extortion and criminal intimidation. Investigators are considering the possibility that a local individual or a disgruntled former employee may be involved in this case. Police are also examining CCTV footage and other technical evidence to identify the sender.

In response to the threats, senior police officials have assured bullion traders of enhanced security measures, including the deployment of plainclothes officers in the market. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Deepak Agarwal stated that the investigation is being intensified, with Crime Branch teams actively working on the case. The Sarafa Association has engaged with local authorities, including Commissioner of Police Vishwas Nangre Patil, to ensure increased vigilance and intelligence gathering in the area.

As the investigation continues, the safety of bullion traders remains a top priority for law enforcement. The police are committed to taking all necessary steps to protect the traders from potential harm while working diligently to resolve the case and apprehend those responsible for the threats.
