IndiGo has confirmed plans to transition 12 of its daily international flights from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai to the newly established Navi Mumbai International Airport, with the move scheduled to begin in February 2027. This decision follows a previously deferred transfer plan due to concerns raised by airlines regarding passenger convenience and operational logistics.

The phased relocation will encompass all existing routes from CSMIA to various international destinations, including Bahrain, Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah, Madinah, Kuwait, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Muscat, Dhaka, and Jakarta. Additionally, IndiGo plans to introduce a new daily service to Kathmandu, increasing its international offerings at Navi Mumbai to a total of 12 destinations by mid-2027.

In a joint statement, IndiGo and Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL) indicated that some domestic flights would also be shifted to enhance connectivity for international travelers. The final schedules and operational dates will be announced once all necessary approvals and coordination efforts are finalized.

This strategic move is expected to alleviate congestion at CSMIA, allowing IndiGo to expand its international services across Asia, Africa, and Europe in 2027, leveraging its growing fleet of A320, A321, and A321XLR aircraft. Furthermore, the transfer of certain domestic flights is anticipated to support the redevelopment of Terminal 1, which is slated for completion by 2030.

The initial plan to transfer a larger number of flights was postponed following feedback from airlines about potential disruptions. The Civil Aviation Ministry intervened, directing Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) to defer the move and engage in further consultations with affected airlines. MIAL has since confirmed that existing international flight allocations will remain unchanged until the end of the winter schedule on March 27, 2027, with subsequent transfers to be coordinated with individual airlines.
