Hyundai has officially launched the Bayon in India, marking its entry into the midsize SUV segment with a competitive price range of ₹9.99 lakh to ₹17.99 lakh. This new model is designed to carve out a unique niche in a market saturated with established players, emphasizing advanced technology and safety features that appeal to potential buyers.

The Bayon measures 4,245 mm in length, making it the smallest SUV in its category. However, its compact dimensions are seen as an advantage, providing a balanced alternative between sub-4m and larger midsize SUVs. In contrast, the Kia Seltos stands as the longest in this segment at 4,460 mm, while the Bayon ranks third in width at 1,810 mm, surpassed only by the Sierra and Seltos.

Equipped with a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder MPi petrol engine, the Bayon produces 115 PS and 143.8 Nm of torque, with transmission options including a 6-speed manual and an Intelligent Variable Transmission (iVT). Notably, the Renault Duster outperforms it with 163 PS and 280 Nm, utilizing a dual-clutch transmission. The Bayon is set to introduce a CNG variant next year, which is expected to maintain its generous boot space of 505 litres, the largest in its class.

The Bayon's pricing strategy positions it as the most affordable option among its competitors, with the top variant featuring advanced technologies like AI assistance and ADAS Level 2 Pro priced at ₹17.99 lakh. In comparison, the Kia Seltos is the most expensive at ₹21.82 lakh, followed by the Hyundai Creta at ₹20.46 lakh. This pricing structure aims to attract budget-conscious consumers looking for a feature-rich SUV.

Looking ahead, Hyundai plans to enhance the Bayon’s offerings with a CNG option and possibly explore hybrid technologies in the future. As the midsize SUV market continues to evolve, the Bayon’s unique features and competitive pricing could position it favorably against its rivals, appealing to a broad spectrum of customers in India.
