Quad Leaders' Summit Scheduled for Manila in November 2024
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirms the upcoming Quad Leaders' Summit in Manila, highlighting its significance for regional cooperation.
The Quad Leaders' Summit will occur in Manila next month.
This marks the first meeting of Quad leaders since September 2024.
The summit aims to enhance collaboration among India, the US, Japan, and Australia.
The next Quad Leaders' Summit is set to take place in Manila, Philippines, next month, as announced by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. This significant gathering will bring together the leaders of India, the United States, Japan, and Australia, aiming to strengthen ties in the Indo-Pacific region during a crucial period of geopolitical dynamics.
This announcement follows a series of diplomatic engagements among the Quad nations, with the summit expected to coincide with the upcoming Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) meetings in November. Rubio emphasized the importance of this meeting, stating that details will be shared soon, highlighting the urgency of collaboration among the four nations.
The announcement comes on the heels of a recent meeting of Quad foreign ministers in Atlanta on October 31, where Rubio met with his counterparts from India, Australia, and Japan. This meeting was the third of its kind this year, following previous discussions in New Delhi and Manila. The ministers focused on enhancing cooperation in vital areas such as supply chain reliability, emerging technologies, maritime security, and critical minerals.
The Manila summit is particularly noteworthy as it will be the first gathering of Quad leaders since the last summit in September 2024, hosted by then-President Joe Biden in Wilmington, Delaware. Originally, India was slated to host the next summit in 2025, but scheduling conflicts led to its postponement. Thus, the upcoming meeting is seen as a pivotal opportunity to rejuvenate high-level discussions within the Quad framework.
Looking ahead, the Quad Leaders' Summit in Manila is anticipated to set the stage for future collaborations and initiatives among the member countries. With increasing geopolitical tensions in the Indo-Pacific, this summit is expected to address pressing issues and reaffirm the commitment of the Quad nations to work together for regional stability and security.
