Preliminary reports suggest accidental death from a train fall.
In a tragic incident, the body of Devpalik Gupta, a 31-year-old functionary of the Jan Suraaj Party, was discovered near railway tracks in Ranchi on Tuesday. Gupta had been traveling on the Ranchi-Patna Janshatabdi Express when he went missing the previous day.
According to police reports, Gupta, who served as the party's digital communications manager, was last seen shortly after the train departed from Ranchi railway station around 2:25 PM on Monday. He informed his fellow passengers that he was heading to the pantry car but failed to return.
Gautam Kumar, a colleague of Gupta, recounted the events stating that after noticing his absence, they searched the pantry car and other coaches but found no trace of him. Once the train arrived at Muri Junction, they reported his disappearance to the Government Railway Police, prompting a search operation.
Authorities later found Gupta's body near Jarwadih village, close to pole number 379/18 on the Ranchi-Muri line. Gautam Kumar Rajwar, officer-in-charge of Angara police station, indicated that initial investigations imply Gupta may have accidentally fallen from the moving train. The body has been sent to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for a post-mortem examination, and an unnatural death case will be filed based on statements from Gupta's family.
This incident raises concerns about safety measures on trains, particularly regarding passenger monitoring and emergency protocols. As investigations continue, the Jan Suraaj Party and Gupta's family seek clarity on the circumstances surrounding his tragic death. Further updates are expected as the post-mortem results are awaited and authorities continue their inquiry.
