Prince Alois is in India from October 25-28 to boost trade and investment ties.
The India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement aims for $100 billion investment from EFTA states.
This marks Prince Alois's second visit to India in 2026, following his attendance at the AI Impact Summit.
On October 27, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in discussions with Liechtenstein's Prince Alois, focusing on enhancing the bilateral relationship between India and Liechtenstein. The meeting took place at Hyderabad House, where the leaders aimed to further the momentum of their partnership, particularly in areas such as trade, investment, science, technology, and innovation.
Prince Alois's visit to India, which runs from October 25 to 28, is part of a broader effort to strengthen bilateral cooperation. This is his second trip to India this year, having previously attended the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi in February. His earlier visits to India occurred in 2010 and 2018, indicating a long-standing interest in fostering ties with the country.
During the meeting, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also met with Prince Alois, emphasizing the strong momentum in their bilateral partnership. The India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA), signed in March 2024 after extensive negotiations, aims to facilitate $100 billion in investments from EFTA countries, including Liechtenstein, over the next 15 years. The agreement has already been in effect since October 2025, highlighting the commitment of both nations to economic collaboration.
The visit not only aims to enhance economic ties but also reflects a shared commitment to deepening bilateral engagement. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson noted that the ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan symbolized the importance of this partnership. Additionally, Prince Alois paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat, reinforcing the values of non-violence and peace that Gandhi championed.
Looking ahead, the discussions between Prime Minister Modi and Prince Alois are expected to pave the way for further cooperation in various sectors. As both nations explore new avenues for collaboration, the outcomes of this visit may significantly impact future bilateral relations and economic initiatives between India and Liechtenstein.
