Iran's Foreign Minister outlines conditions for resuming talks with the US, including sanctions relief.
In a significant escalation of rhetoric, Iran's Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has issued a stern warning to the United States and Israel, cautioning against any new military actions. During a recent meeting with senior military commanders, Khamenei stated that any hostile actions would trigger a response determined by Iran's armed forces and its citizens. He emphasized that the nation would dictate the terms of engagement should hostilities resume.
Khamenei's remarks come in the context of increasing threats from both the US and Israel regarding potential military strikes against Iran. The Supreme Leader instructed military leaders to prepare for an 'unrestricted' response to any level of threat, highlighting the need for immediate and impactful action. This meeting marks the first reported interaction between Khamenei and military officials in some time, indicating a possible shift in Iran's military posture.
In addition to military readiness, Khamenei has directed commanders to update Iran's target list, which now includes a wide array of assets belonging to what he termed the 'American-Zionist enemy.' This move suggests a broadening of Iran's military strategy in response to perceived threats from the West.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has indicated that Tehran is open to resuming talks with the US, contingent upon certain conditions. These include lifting sanctions imposed after a previous memorandum of understanding and reducing the US military presence in the region. Araqchi also mentioned that reopening the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz on Iran's terms could facilitate dialogue with Washington.
As tensions continue to mount, US President Donald Trump has hinted at the possibility of renewed military action against Iran, while also expressing a desire for a diplomatic resolution. Trump's comments reflect the ongoing volatility in US-Iran relations, which have been strained since the US and Israel launched joint strikes on Iran earlier this year. The situation remains precarious, with both sides poised for potential conflict as diplomatic efforts appear stalled.
