On the occasion of UN Day, India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar called for urgent dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia. Speaking at the Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav Global Sammelan in Delhi, Jaishankar expressed concern over how these conflicts affect societies and economies worldwide, emphasizing that a war in one region poses a threat to peace everywhere.
Jaishankar's remarks come amidst escalating tensions in Ukraine due to Russia's invasion and ongoing conflicts involving the United States, Israel, and Iran in West Asia. He pointed out that people far removed from these conflicts are bearing the brunt of their consequences, urging the international community to take a more active role rather than remaining passive observers.
The minister reiterated India's stance that dialogue is the only viable solution to these disputes. He stated, "We cannot remain helpless spectators," and highlighted India's willingness to collaborate with other nations to restore peace. Jaishankar also addressed the issue of terrorism, labeling it a major threat to global stability and asserting that its use as a tool of statecraft is unacceptable.
Jaishankar linked the concepts of global peace and economic development, arguing that progress cannot occur in a world where some nations thrive while others suffer. He warned that the interconnectedness of global supply chains and resources necessitates a unified approach to prevent instability. "The world cannot advance half prosperous and half denied," he stated, calling for a collective response to ensure a stable future.
Looking ahead, Jaishankar's emphasis on dialogue and cooperation suggests that India will continue to engage with international partners to address these pressing global issues. As the situation evolves, the international community's response will be crucial in shaping the future of peace and security in conflict-affected regions.
