In a significant breakthrough, the Uppal police in Hyderabad arrested a 25-year-old woman named Paga Jaya on October 31, 2023, for her alleged role in a series of house burglaries. The arrest took place near the LB Nagar route bus stop following a tip-off, leading to the recovery of valuables worth approximately ₹70 lakh, including gold and silver ornaments, cash, and an iPhone 17.

The investigation began after Gangam Bhaskar Reddy, a resident of New Bharat Nagar, reported a burglary on October 27. Reddy had left his home on October 26 to visit a temple, only to be informed by his tenant the next day that the lock on his house had been broken. Upon inspection, he discovered that significant amounts of gold and silver, along with ₹2 lakh in cash, were missing from his home.

Following the complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and initiated an investigation. During questioning, Jaya reportedly confessed to her involvement in the burglary and indicated her participation in other similar crimes. Authorities believe she may be linked to at least five additional burglary cases across various police jurisdictions, including Uppal and Medipally.

Police investigations revealed that Jaya targeted homes where the occupants were away, often donning a burqa to disguise her identity. She used a hand-cutter machine to break locks and gain entry, stealing valuables which she later sold or pledged for personal expenses. Jaya's background includes financial difficulties that led her to abandon her BTech studies and seek quick money through illegal means.

The case has garnered attention under the supervision of Malkajgiri Police Commissioner B Sumathi and other senior officers. As investigations continue, police are working to ascertain the full extent of Jaya's criminal activities and recover any remaining stolen items.
