In a surprising turn of events, Flávio Bolsonaro, a Brazilian senator and former presidential candidate, reportedly received assistance from a former Mossad officer during his escape from Brazil to the United States. This incident unfolded on October 27, when Bolsonaro, along with his wife Fernanda and their two daughters, crossed into Argentina via the Tancredo Neves International Bridge, which connects Foz do Iguaçu to Puerto Iguazú.
The investigation by CNN Brasil reveals that the family utilized two vans for their journey, with Bolsonaro traveling alongside the ex-Mossad agent in one vehicle, while his family was in another. The former Israeli intelligence officer is said to have arrived in Brazil on October 19, just six days prior to the presidential runoff election, and accompanied Bolsonaro to the border, although his identity remains undisclosed. The investigation has yet to clarify the extent of his involvement in organizing the escape.
Brazilian authorities have utilized security camera footage to identify the two vans and their drivers, one of whom is a former municipal council member from Foz do Iguaçu. After successfully crossing into Argentina, the Bolsonaro family boarded a Gulfstream G400 private jet operated by Baires Fly, an Argentine charter company. The aircraft made a stop in Guayaquil, Ecuador, for refueling before landing at Opa-locka Executive Airport near Miami on October 28.
Dubbed “Operation Alba,” this escape plan appears to have been in the works prior to the conclusion of the election campaign. Investigators are probing potential logistical support from contacts associated with the administrations of Argentine President Javier Milei and former US President Donald Trump. However, no direct involvement from either government in facilitating the departure has been confirmed. Reports indicate that Trump adviser Jason Miller played a role in arranging the private jet, while Milei’s adviser Santiago Caputo was reportedly present at the border to oversee the operation.
Following his defeat in the October 25 presidential runoff to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Flávio Bolsonaro was ordered by Brazil's Supreme Federal Court to surrender his passports and was prohibited from leaving the country amid ongoing investigations into alleged money laundering. Brazil’s federal police are currently investigating how he managed to cross the border without official immigration records. The Brazilian foreign ministry has summoned Argentina’s representative for clarification regarding the senator’s passage, while US lawmakers have raised questions about the use of diplomatic resources in his escape. As the situation unfolds, Bolsonaro has claimed to be Brazil’s “leader,” expressing gratitude to Trump and Milei for their support.
