Delhi Protest Erupts in Violence as Pro-Modi Supporter Attacked
A man opposing the INDIA bloc protest in Delhi claims he was assaulted by supporters of Rahul Gandhi after chanting pro-Modi slogans.
Fahim Nazir, a Srinagar resident, was assaulted during an anti-government protest in Delhi.
Delhi Police have filed an FIR against unidentified individuals following Nazir's complaint.
The incident has sparked political outrage, with the BJP condemning Congress for the attack.
In a chaotic scene at a protest in Connaught Place, Delhi, a man from Srinagar named Fahim Nazir reported being assaulted by supporters of Rahul Gandhi after he voiced pro-Modi slogans. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon during a gathering organized by the opposition INDIA bloc, which has been vocal against the current government.
Nazir, who attended the protest not as a supporter but as a critic, held a placard and chanted slogans in favor of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His actions quickly drew the ire of the crowd, leading to a confrontation that escalated into physical violence. According to Nazir, he was attacked for questioning the opposition's narrative regarding electoral integrity, particularly in light of their accusations against the government of vote theft.
Following the incident, Nazir approached the Delhi Police, who have since registered a First Information Report (FIR) against unidentified individuals involved in the assault. In a statement to NDTV, Nazir expressed his frustration with the opposition's claims, stating that he aimed to challenge Rahul Gandhi on the perceived inconsistencies in their allegations of electoral fraud, especially since Modi has won consecutive elections since 2014.
The altercation has drawn significant attention, with BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari condemning the actions of Congress supporters. He labeled the incident as an attack on democracy and criticized Congress for what he termed anarchistic behavior. The BJP's response reflects a broader narrative of political tension, as the opposition has been protesting against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the electoral process.
As the political landscape continues to heat up, this incident underscores the growing polarization in Indian politics. The opposition's protests against the Chief Election Commissioner, which began on October 6, have intensified, with calls for his resignation. The fallout from this protest and the subsequent violence may have lasting implications for the upcoming elections and the overall political climate in the country.
