Delhi is gearing up for significant restrictions as the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) plans a protest at Jantar Mantar on Saturday, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The Delhi Police have denied permission for the demonstration, citing the failure to provide the required 10-day advance notice and previous violations of protest guidelines. With public safety as a priority, officials have warned that any breach of the imposed restrictions could lead to legal consequences.

The police have implemented Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) in parts of central Delhi, particularly around sensitive areas. Concerns have been raised regarding the potential movement of protesters towards critical locations, including Jantar Mantar and the New Delhi district. As a precaution, authorities are taking steps to prevent any disruption to public order.

In response to the planned protest, restrictions have been placed on 57 metro stations, effective from 9 PM on Friday, October 9. Key stations such as Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, and New Delhi will have their entry and exit gates closed, and metro services may operate at reduced frequencies. This disruption is expected to impact daily commuters significantly, and passengers are advised to stay updated on service changes before traveling.

Rail services are also facing interruptions, with several trains scheduled to arrive at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin stations being cancelled. The cancellations will affect trains arriving between 4 AM and 2 PM on Saturday, and travelers are urged to check their train statuses before heading to the stations. This could lead to further complications for those relying on rail transport during the protest period.

To ensure security, approximately 23,000 personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) will be deployed across the capital. The Union Home Ministry has sanctioned the deployment of 221 CAPF companies from October 8 to 12, in addition to 110 companies already assigned to the Delhi Police. This includes various forces such as the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). Authorities will also implement multi-layered barricading and utilize CCTV monitoring, including Face Recognition System cameras, to maintain order. Neighboring states like Uttar Pradesh and Haryana have been alerted to remain vigilant during the protests.
