Delhi Police Detain CJP Leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka
On October 14, 2026, Delhi Police arrested two leaders of the Cockroach Janata Party following their attempt to protest at Jantar Mantar.
Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were arrested under preventive measures.
The arrests followed their earlier detention while trying to access a de-notified protest site.
The police action is part of ongoing investigations into electoral roll irregularities.
On October 14, 2026, the Delhi Police arrested Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, leaders of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), at the Parliament Street police station. This action occurred a day after they, along with 12 other party members, were detained while attempting to enter Jantar Mantar, which had recently been de-notified as an official protest site on October 12.
The police's decision to arrest the CJP leaders follows an FIR that was filed against them, citing charges such as criminal trespass and disobedience of orders. Prior to this, Das, Ranka, and another CJP member, Abhijeet Dipke, were detained at Indira Gandhi International Airport on October 10 while preparing for the protest. They were released after providing surety bonds of ₹50,000 each and agreeing to maintain peace for one year.
A peace bond is a legal commitment to uphold order, and violations can lead to further legal repercussions. The recent arrests came after a group of CJP members, including Das, Ranka, and Ajinkya Shinde, were detained on October 13 while trying to access Jantar Mantar. A video shared by Dipke showed the members bypassing barricades and waving the national flag while chanting slogans.
In response to the protest, a senior officer from the Delhi Police indicated that the demonstrators had accessed the area through public eateries near the protest site. The arrests are part of increased security measures in Central Delhi, which have been implemented following a series of protests by the CJP and other groups regarding alleged discrepancies in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the arrests and the protests is ongoing, with authorities closely monitoring the situation as tensions rise in the area.
