The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings regarding the formation of Cyclone Murasu, which is projected to impact the Andhra Pradesh coast by Monday. This development comes just days after Cyclone Arnab made landfall near Narsapuram, leaving the region vulnerable to another severe weather event. The depression currently forming over the southeast Bay of Bengal is expected to strengthen significantly, with forecasts indicating it could become a cyclone by the end of the weekend.

The IMD reported that the depression originated from a well-marked low-pressure area that developed over the southeast Bay and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. As of now, it is located approximately 330 km from Sri Vijayapuram and 1,140 km from Chennai. The system is anticipated to bring heavy rainfall to Andhra Pradesh, with isolated areas expected to receive extremely heavy downpours on Monday, followed by strong winds reaching up to 70 km/hr on Tuesday.

In addition to Andhra Pradesh, the weather system is likely to affect neighboring states, including Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Telangana, with heavy rainfall expected over the next few days. Coastal regions are particularly at risk, with forecasts suggesting that rainfall could persist through Wednesday. Areas in Karnataka are also likely to experience adverse weather conditions, particularly on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The recent weather patterns have already resulted in significant rainfall across various regions, including the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and parts of West Bengal and Telangana. Notably, Chodavaram in Andhra Pradesh recorded an extraordinary 50 cm of rainfall in just 24 hours. The remnants of Cyclone Arnab are still influencing weather conditions in East and East-central India, while a western disturbance is also contributing to the ongoing rain.

As Cyclone Murasu develops, meteorologists are closely monitoring the situation, particularly given the warm sea-surface temperatures and favorable atmospheric conditions that could lead to rapid intensification. The next 48 hours will be critical in determining the cyclone's trajectory and potential impact on the Andhra Pradesh coast and surrounding areas. Residents are advised to stay alert and prepared for severe weather as the situation unfolds.
