BJP Claims 40% of Ramlila Maidan Unoccupied During Rally
The BJP criticizes Rahul Gandhi's 10-lakh attendance prediction, asserting that a significant portion of the venue remained empty.
BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra highlighted that 40% of Ramlila Maidan was vacant during the rally.
Opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, claimed the rally was a success despite BJP's criticism.
The rally focused on demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged voter roll discrepancies.
During a recent rally at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's assertion that 10 lakh people would attend, claiming that 40% of the venue was unoccupied. BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra pointed out that only a fraction of the expected crowd showed up, with visuals from the event supporting this claim.
Patra's comments came during a press conference where he noted that out of 28,000 chairs set up for attendees, approximately 5,000 to 7,000 were empty between 3:30 PM and 4 PM. He emphasized that the reality of the turnout contradicted the Congress party's predictions, stating, "You can see in the background that 40 percent of Ramlila Maidan was vacant."
Despite the BJP's assertions, several opposition leaders hailed the rally as a significant success. Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi described the event positively, stating that the BJP's frustration stemmed from the large turnout. He expressed confidence that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar would need to resign due to the public's discontent.
The rally was attended by prominent opposition figures, including Akhilesh Yadav, Mamata Banerjee, and former Jammu and Kashmir chief ministers Farooq Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti. Rahul Gandhi, addressing the crowd, accused Gyanesh Kumar of committing serious electoral misconduct and insisted that his removal was essential for restoring democratic integrity in India.
Looking ahead, the opposition plans to continue its campaign against the Election Commission, emphasizing the need for accountability and transparency in the electoral process. The INDIA bloc is expected to organize further demonstrations and discussions to maintain momentum in their efforts against perceived electoral irregularities.
