Government promises reforms following tragic incidents.
Samruddhi, a 14-year-old girl, is currently battling for her life in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Government Medical College, Nagpur, after being bitten by a snake at her tribal school in Gadchiroli. This incident, which resulted in the death of three of her classmates, has become a rallying point for protests highlighting the poor conditions in tribal schools across Maharashtra. Activists are calling for immediate reforms to ensure safety and dignity for tribal students.
The Maharashtra Tribal Development Department had previously initiated the 'Kayapalat Abhiyan' to improve living conditions in government-run ashram schools, but many schools, including Samruddhi's, remain inadequately equipped. Following the tragic snakebite incident, the government has begun inspections of other schools and is committed to addressing the concerns raised by protesting students, including the need for better infrastructure and safety measures.
