On November 3, 2026, Rohit Pawar, a member of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction), raised serious allegations regarding a multi-crore scam associated with the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (CET). During a press conference in Mumbai, he called for the resignation of Chandrakant Patil, the state’s Higher and Technical Education Minister, and urged for a judicial investigation into the matter, threatening to escalate his campaign against the government if no action is taken within ten days.
Pawar emphasized the implications of these allegations on the future of students, asserting that the integrity of top colleges is compromised due to corruption involving a private company that has acquired multiple contracts related to the CET. He accused this company of manipulating the tendering process to secure contracts not only for examination management but also for basic infrastructure needs, such as dustbins. In his presentation, he outlined various alleged irregularities in the CET operations.
The MLA expressed concern that deserving students are being deprived of equal opportunities, claiming that the examination process has been rigged to benefit those who can afford to pay substantial sums for admission into prestigious colleges. He specifically highlighted the engineering college entrance exam as a focal point of these corrupt practices.
Pawar further alleged that the entire system is colluding to exclude reputable companies from the tendering process, suggesting that a cartel-like environment has developed among firms involved with the CET. He introduced a group of educators who reportedly conducted a sting operation revealing that students were being charged up to ₹25 lakh to pass the exam and secure favorable results. He called for police protection for these teachers, citing concerns for their safety.
In addition to the CET allegations, Pawar commented on the potential for political divisions within the Pawar family, suggesting that the BJP might attempt to create rifts between Ajit Pawar's sons, Jay and Parth Pawar. He indicated that a merger between factions of the NCP could only occur if Sunetra Pawar’s faction were to distance itself from the BJP and align with Sharad Pawar’s group.
