A high-level committee established by the Maharashtra government has put forth an interim report advocating for an increase in the number of posts for the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) Group-C Services Combined Preliminary Examination 2026 to over 16,000. This recommendation comes alongside a proposal for a one-time, one-year relaxation in the upper age limit for candidates participating in recruitment examinations.

Formed under a Government Resolution dated September 4, 2026, the committee's objective is to enhance the transparency, security, and reliability of the recruitment examination process in the state. The interim report was developed after extensive consultations with students and various stakeholders throughout Maharashtra, incorporating their demands and feedback into the recommendations.

Currently, more than 12 lakh candidates have applied for the Group-C examination, which initially advertised over 5,000 posts. However, various departments have indicated a need for an additional 11,000 posts. The committee has suggested that these additional positions be included through a corrigendum, raising the total to over 16,000, thus accommodating the growing demand for public service roles.

In addition to the increase in posts, the committee has recommended a one-time special relaxation of one year in the upper age limit for all recruitment advertisements released after January 1, 2026, where the selection process has not yet commenced. This relaxation would also apply to advertisements issued until December 31, 2027. Furthermore, the committee proposed reopening the application process for the Group-C Examination 2026 to allow new candidates to apply due to the increased posts and age relaxation.

Regarding the examination format, the committee has advised maintaining the current pattern and syllabus for the Group-C Preliminary Examination. It also emphasized the need for new question papers to be prepared securely, cancelling the previous question-paper preparation process. Strict security measures for the printing, storage, and transportation of examination materials were highlighted, along with the necessity for adequate security at examination centers, including police presence, CCTV monitoring, and trained personnel to ensure a smooth and secure examination process.
