Maharashtra Launches Voter Registration Camps on October 10-11
In response to ongoing protests, CM Fadnavis announces special voter registration camps across Maharashtra this weekend.
Special voter registration camps will be held on October 10 and 11.
CM Fadnavis emphasizes the importance of voter participation in democracy.
Eligible citizens can register by filling out Form-6 before the October 12 deadline.
In light of recent protests demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced the organization of special voter registration camps throughout the state on October 10 and 11. This initiative aims to encourage eligible citizens to ensure their names are included in the voter list, which is essential for democratic participation.
The protests have centered around the Special Intensive Review (SIR) process, with demonstrators calling for its abolition. In this context, Fadnavis highlighted the necessity of voter registration, stating, "In a democratic system, the participation of every eligible citizen is important." He urged citizens to take advantage of the camps to facilitate their registration.
Fadnavis noted that those whose names are absent from the draft voter list should complete Form-6 to apply for registration. Additionally, voters who have received notices related to the SIR process will have the opportunity to submit alternative valid documents as required. This provision aims to assist those affected by the ongoing review process.
The announcement comes at a crucial time, as the deadline for voter registration is set for October 12. Fadnavis encouraged all eligible citizens to utilize the facilities provided during the camps to ensure they can participate in upcoming elections. This move is seen as an effort to bolster voter turnout and engagement amid the current political climate.
Looking ahead, the state government is expected to monitor the response to these registration camps closely. The outcome may influence future electoral strategies and the ongoing discourse surrounding the SIR process and the Election Commission's role in ensuring fair electoral practices.
