The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the licenses of three food establishments in Mumbai following inspections that uncovered significant violations of food safety regulations. This action took place between October 9 and 13, 2026, and includes a Domino's Pizza outlet located in Parel, along with two other eateries: Maaz Food Parcel and Catering in Bhandup West and Mughal Dhaba in Kurla West.
The inspections revealed multiple breaches of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The Domino's outlet, situated at Rangoli Time Complex on Dr. Ambedkar Road, had its food license suspended on October 12 after inspectors found serious hygiene issues. These included the improper storage of vegetarian and non-vegetarian items together and the lack of necessary documentation for food-contact packaging materials. A previous inspection on August 11 had prompted an improvement notice, but subsequent checks showed no compliance.
In Bhandup West, Maaz Food Parcel and Catering faced suspension on October 13 due to severe cleanliness issues, including a cockroach infestation and unlabelled food items. The establishment misled customers by advertising butter while using fat spread, and it failed to maintain separate equipment for vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. Mughal Dhaba's registration was suspended on October 9 after complaints about stale food, with inspections revealing unsanitary conditions and a lack of food segregation.
In a separate operation on October 12, the FDA seized 12,382 kg of suspected adulterated edible oil in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, valued at ₹23.35 lakh. The Bajrang Trading Company was found to be operating under poor hygiene standards, receiving a mere 10 out of 206 marks during inspection. The FDA also conducted a raid in Beed district, seizing prohibited food items worth ₹10 lakh and registering an FIR against the offenders.
The FDA has emphasized the importance of food safety and urged the public to report any concerns regarding food quality or malpractices through their toll-free helpline, 1800222365, or via the department's online grievance portal. These actions highlight the ongoing efforts of the FDA to ensure compliance with food safety standards in Maharashtra.
