In a significant crackdown on illegal liquor trade, the Maharashtra Excise Department conducted two raids in Latur district, resulting in the seizure of illicit Goa-manufactured liquor valued at Rs 19.77 lakh. The operations underscore the department's ongoing efforts to combat the illegal alcohol market in the region.
The first raid took place on October 30 in Sadguru Nagar, where officials confiscated 1,152 sealed bottles of Goa-made liquor, along with 125 bottles of counterfeit liquor, 5,650 fake caps, a vehicle suspected to be used for transportation, and two mobile phones. This operation marked a crucial step in addressing the rampant illegal liquor trade that has raised concerns in Maharashtra.
Following the initial raid, further intelligence led the excise officials to conduct a second operation on Sunday in Anand Nagar. This raid resulted in the recovery of an additional 276 sealed bottles of Goa-manufactured liquor. Cases have been registered against the alleged owners of the liquor stock and the premises involved, in accordance with the Maharashtra Prohibition Act.
The implications of these raids are significant for both public safety and regulatory enforcement. The Maharashtra Excise Department has reiterated the importance of purchasing liquor only from licensed vendors and has urged citizens to report any suspicious activities related to illegal liquor production and distribution through their helpline numbers.
Looking ahead, the Excise Department is expected to intensify its surveillance and enforcement activities to deter illegal liquor trade. Continued public cooperation will be vital in these efforts, as authorities aim to ensure compliance with liquor laws and protect consumers from unsafe products.
