Maharashtra Celebrates Wildlife Week at Lonar Lake
The Maharashtra Forest Department kicks off Wildlife Week with a rally and educational activities at Lonar Lake.

The event featured a rally led by students advocating for forest and wildlife conservation.
Various activities, including bird-watching and essay competitions, are planned for the week.
The Maharashtra Forest Department officially launched the Wildlife Week celebrations today at Lonar Lake, located in the Buldhana district. The event commenced with an awareness rally where hundreds of students participated, chanting slogans like 'Save Forests, Save Wildlife' as they marched through the city of Lonar.
During the inaugural program, retired Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Yogita Vishwas, emphasized the significance of career opportunities within forest services and the necessity of fostering a connection with nature among the youth. Senior IAS officer Sameer Kumar Vishwas praised Lonar Lake as a geological marvel of Maharashtra, urging collective efforts to safeguard its rich biodiversity.
Honorary Wildlife Warden Sachin Kapure addressed the audience regarding the consequences of disrupting the natural food chain, while Range Forest Officer M. W. Ramteke elaborated on the crucial interdependence between water, forests, and insects. Additionally, snake rescuer Vinay Kulkarni from the Nisarg Foundation conducted demonstrations on snakebite precautions, aiming to debunk prevalent myths surrounding snakes.
The program attracted numerous forest officials, local representatives, educators, and volunteers, all coming together to support wildlife conservation efforts. As part of the week-long festivities, the Forest Department has organized various activities, including bird-watching sessions, a cleanliness drive, and an essay competition aimed at school students at the Lonar Wildlife Sanctuary.
Looking ahead, the Forest Department plans to engage the community further with educational initiatives and activities throughout the week, reinforcing the importance of wildlife conservation and environmental awareness among the public.
