On November 3, Denmark's Minister for Business and Competitiveness, Martin Lidegaard, arrived in Mumbai to foster stronger ties with Maharashtra, particularly in maritime affairs, green shipping, and technology. This visit comes as part of Denmark's ongoing efforts to enhance trade and investment relations with the Indian state, as highlighted by the Danish Embassy's statement.
Lidegaard's agenda included a meeting with Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, where they discussed the potential for Danish investments in the region. The talks also touched on the European Union's India Free Trade Agreement, which is expected to open new economic avenues, especially in the maritime sector and infrastructure development.
Maharashtra has become a significant commercial hub for Denmark, hosting more than 60 Danish enterprises across various sectors, including shipping and consumer goods. The minister emphasized the mutual benefits of collaboration, stating that both Denmark and Maharashtra have economies of similar scale, which can lead to expanded commercial opportunities with the forthcoming EU-India trade agreement.
During his visit, Lidegaard toured APM Terminals Mumbai, part of the Maersk Group, where he engaged in discussions regarding port operations and infrastructure enhancements. The focus was on improving efficiency and sustainability through the adoption of green technologies and investments in infrastructure, which are crucial for the future of maritime operations in the region.
Looking ahead, Lidegaard expressed optimism about the Indo-Danish maritime collaboration, which he believes will stimulate further investments and promote green growth within India's maritime sector. The minister's visit marks a significant step in solidifying the economic partnership between Denmark and Maharashtra, with expectations for continued growth in the coming years.
