In anticipation of the winter session of the Maharashtra state legislature, preparations at Vidhan Bhavan are set to intensify, with officials and staff expected to arrive by November 19. Divisional Commissioner Vijayalakshmi Bidari has mandated that all departments complete their arrangements ahead of this date, ensuring that the venue is fully operational for the event.
During a review meeting held on Wednesday, Bidari assessed the readiness of various infrastructures and public services necessary for the session. She highlighted the importance of effective coordination among government agencies and urged departments to adhere to deadlines for their respective tasks. The upcoming session is expected to attract a large number of ministers, elected representatives, and media personnel, which may lead to increased pressure on the city’s public facilities and transportation systems.
Bidari expressed concerns regarding the anticipated surge in vehicle traffic during the session and stressed the need for comprehensive traffic management plans. She also noted that protests and marches by various organizations are common during this period, prompting her to instruct officials to ensure that adequate medical facilities are available at protest sites. Health teams will be on standby to address any emergencies that may arise.
To enhance the convenience of both participants and local residents, Bidari called for the installation of mobile toilets at strategic locations around the Vidhan Bhavan complex. She underscored the necessity of inter-departmental collaboration to prevent any disruptions in the arrangements, assigning specific responsibilities to the police, public works, health, and transport departments, along with local bodies.
The meeting included key officials such as Joint Commissioner of Police Navinchandra Reddy and District Collector Kumar Ashirwad, who discussed the importance of joint decision-making to ensure smooth operations during the session. As the date approaches, all eyes will be on how effectively these preparations are executed to accommodate the influx of attendees and maintain public order.
