As concerns about potential water shortages rise, the Zilla Parishad (ZP) of Nagpur is taking proactive steps to address the situation by revitalizing existing water sources. This initiative includes the revival of defunct borewells and the establishment of new ones, particularly in the Kamptee region, where the administration is focusing on both immediate and long-term solutions to combat the anticipated dry spell.

On Tuesday, ZP Chief Executive Officer Vinayak Mahamuni visited several villages in Kamptee taluka, including Kawtha, Mhasala, and Khasala, to assess the availability of drinking water and identify potential challenges related to drought. During his inspections, Mahamuni emphasized the importance of integrating various measures into the villages' contingency plans for water scarcity.

In Kawtha, the plan includes the drilling of two new borewells equipped with pumping machinery, the flushing of ten existing borewells, and the construction of five groundwater recharge shafts. Additionally, proposals for an underground check dam, stream deepening, and a cement check dam aim to improve water retention and enhance groundwater recharge efforts in the area.

Khasala's strategy focuses on the restoration of existing wells, with directives issued to clean and rejuvenate wells located near Datta Mandir and the market platform. Furthermore, a new borewell is proposed near Datta Mandir, and plans for two additional borewells with necessary pumping systems are set for the second phase of the water supply initiative.

To prevent water wastage, Mahamuni has also mandated immediate repairs to a leaking air valve on a pipeline managed by Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP). The review involved collaboration among officials from various departments, including rural water supply and minor irrigation, alongside local representatives, highlighting a community-focused approach to tackling the water crisis.
