In a distressing incident in Nagpur, a couple has accused a private hospital of negligence after their baby was stillborn during a Caesarean section on Sunday morning. The parents, Afroz and Neha Shah, were expecting their first child when Neha was admitted to the hospital late Saturday night due to discomfort. Following the surgery around 11 AM, the couple was devastated to learn that their baby boy had not survived.
The Shah family reported visible injury-like marks on the infant's body, prompting them to question the hospital's care. In response to the family's concerns, hospital officials called the police, who subsequently registered a case of accidental death and sent the body for postmortem examination to ascertain the cause of death.
According to police, the couple's relatives gathered at the hospital demanding answers. Senior Inspector Manoj Pawar stated that the police are investigating the matter and have recorded statements from both the family and hospital staff. The doctors claimed that the marks observed on the baby were pre-birth blisters, while the family insists they are signs of negligence.
The incident has raised significant concerns about the quality of care provided at the hospital. Family members expressed frustration over the absence of the attending physician during Neha's admission, stating that the doctor should have diagnosed any potential issues upon her arrival. Neha had been under the care of the hospital since the beginning of her pregnancy, and the family felt assured that everything was normal prior to the delivery.
As the investigation continues, the police are awaiting the postmortem report to clarify the circumstances surrounding the stillbirth. The family is seeking accountability from the hospital, and the outcome of the postmortem may influence further legal actions. The case highlights ongoing concerns regarding maternal and infant care in healthcare facilities in Nagpur and beyond.
