During the ET Business Growth Summit held in Nagpur, Maharashtra's Minister of State for Finance, Ashish Jaiswal, urged a reassessment of the state's industrial incentive schemes. He pointed out that delays in subsidy payments can impose significant financial burdens on businesses, stifling industrial development. Jaiswal suggested that the government should consider providing incentives upfront, allowing investors to avoid long waits for reimbursements, which can hinder project planning and financing.

Jaiswal's comments come at a time when the industrial landscape in Maharashtra faces challenges, particularly regarding land availability for expansion. He announced that the state government is developing a new policy framework designed to facilitate land acquisition through mutual consent and government land banks. This initiative aims to create tripartite agreements involving farmers, industries, and the government, ensuring that landowners benefit from industrial growth beyond one-time compensation.

The Minister emphasized the importance of reducing bureaucratic delays in releasing funds, stating that a more efficient system would be crucial for achieving the state's economic goals. He also highlighted the potential for leasing arrangements to lower the initial capital needed for establishing industrial units, with plans to finalize the policy soon and invite public suggestions.

Manohar Pote, the Regional Head of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), echoed Jaiswal's sentiments, noting that Vidarbha is poised for significant industrial growth over the next decade, particularly in sectors such as defense, logistics, and renewable energy. He stressed the necessity of building local vendor ecosystems to ensure smaller businesses can engage in supply chains alongside larger manufacturers.

As discussions at the summit progressed, industry representatives underscored the need for policies that not only address land and capital availability but also tackle the practical challenges faced by smaller manufacturers. The consensus was that leveraging Vidarbha's geographical advantages and natural resources, coupled with timely incentives and robust infrastructure, could lead to sustained industrial activity in the region.
