In a recent meeting held in Nagpur, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari urged elected officials to set aside political differences and collaborate towards achieving a drought-free Vidarbha. This call to action came as part of the preparations for Agrovision, an agricultural exhibition scheduled from November 27 to 30, which will focus on the theme of drought management and effective water usage.
Gadkari, who is a prominent advocate for agricultural development, stressed the importance of collective efforts from local leaders, including MLAs and MPs, to address the pressing issue of drought in the region. He acknowledged the significant challenges posed by drought but expressed optimism that with proper planning and resource management, Vidarbha could overcome these obstacles. "We can make Vidarbha drought-free with collective effort," he stated, emphasizing the need for unity among various stakeholders.
During the meeting, Gadkari highlighted the necessity of implementing government schemes effectively to benefit farmers and improve the livelihoods of the rural population. He called for a united front at Agrovision, where all participants should work towards enhancing the agricultural sector. The minister also pointed out that water conservation is critical and should be viewed as an opportunity for future planning amid the current crisis.
Gadkari addressed the impacts of climate change and erratic rainfall on farming, urging local representatives to provide farmers with accurate information and guidance. He noted that the management of water resources and the selection of appropriate crops are crucial in navigating the challenges faced by farmers today. His remarks underscored the urgency of adopting modern farming technologies and efficient water use practices.
In addition to Gadkari's comments, Minister of State for Finance Ashish Jaiswal discussed the various initiatives being implemented by the agriculture department to support farmers during drought conditions. He encouraged farmers to align their sowing plans with available resources and assured them of the state government's assistance. Jaiswal emphasized the importance of disseminating information about government schemes and introducing modern agricultural techniques to enhance productivity in the region.
