The Maharashtra state cabinet has approved an additional funding of ₹644.63 crore for the Agrovision International Agricultural Facilitation Centre located at Dabha, raising the overall project budget to ₹879.63 crore. This facility, situated on the premises of Nagpur’s College of Agriculture and under the auspices of Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, aims to serve as a significant hub for agricultural research, technology sharing, and international collaboration.
The decision to increase the funding was made during a cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The project, which is set to host the annual AgroVision agricultural exhibition, will be executed in two distinct phases. The first phase has seen its initial budget of ₹235 crore revised upwards by ₹342.72 crore, bringing the total for this phase to ₹577.72 crore. Additionally, ₹301.91 crore has been allocated for the second phase of development.
Phase I will introduce several essential facilities to elevate the centre to global standards, including an integrated exhibition hall, administrative offices, service areas, a VIP lounge, and hospitality amenities. Furthermore, the project will incorporate a sophisticated heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) system, an integrated building management system (IBMS), and advanced security measures, ensuring a modern and efficient environment.
The second phase will focus on constructing large-scale infrastructure tailored for international conferences and agricultural events. This includes a grand auditorium with a seating capacity of 2,500, alongside various conference and seminar halls, VIP rooms, and other supportive facilities. The centre is designed to be a comprehensive platform that integrates agricultural knowledge, research, cutting-edge technology, exhibitions, and global communication.
To ensure effective management, an independent committee will be established to devise a business plan for the centre's operations. The cabinet has also sanctioned the formation of a regulatory committee, headed by the chief secretary, with the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation designated as the primary agency responsible for overseeing the project's construction.
