In a significant achievement for public health, the Dhagera and Shillai health blocks of Sirmaur district have emerged as leaders in a special Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination initiative in Himachal Pradesh. This campaign is designed to protect adolescent girls against cervical cancer, a critical health concern. The Shillai block secured the second position by vaccinating 513 girls, surpassing its target of 490, while the Dhagera block topped the state with 855 vaccinations against a target of 756.

The Shillai block's success was celebrated at a ceremony held at Hotel Radisson in Shimla, where senior health officials, including Secretary (Health) Ashish Singhmar and NHM Managing Director Pradeep Thakur, presented a trophy and certificate to the team. Block Medical Officer (BMO) Dr. Ajay Deol attributed this accomplishment to the collaborative efforts of Community Health Officers (CHOs), health workers, and supervisors who worked diligently to ensure eligible girls received the vaccine.

The HPV vaccine is crucial for preventing infections caused by the Human Papillomavirus, which can lead to cervical cancer. The Government of India, in collaboration with the NHM, launched this campaign to enhance preventive healthcare and ensure timely immunization for adolescent girls. Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Sirmaur, Dr. Rakesh Pratap, commended the health teams for their dedication, stating that their efforts are vital for strengthening preventive healthcare and increasing participation in vaccination initiatives.

The Dhagera health block's achievement of 115% vaccination coverage highlights the commitment of health teams in the region. Officiating BMO, Dr. Chavi Bansal, emphasized that this success reflects the relentless efforts of health staff to protect girls from cervical cancer through timely vaccinations. The recognition received is expected to motivate health workers to continue improving vaccination rates and bolster preventive healthcare services.

Looking ahead, the state-level acknowledgment aims to inspire other health blocks to enhance their performance in government-led immunization campaigns. This initiative not only protects the health of adolescent girls but also sets a benchmark for future vaccination efforts across Himachal Pradesh.
